Five days ago we looked down on the northeast corner of Chicago and LaSalle from the sundeck of a neighboring building. The site had been cleared for a planned 295-unit apartment tower, but there was no sign of activity.
By yesterday afternoon preparations were underway to begin drilling the foundation caissons. Several pieces of equipment and large diameter tubes for the caissons were on the site.
Crews from Commonwealth Edison were preparing to remove the utility poles along the alley and relocate the lines.
