Construction update: Catalyst, 111 W Wacker, River Point and more

Recent visits to the roof of Hubbard Place in River North and a penthouse at K2 in the Fulton River District gave me good vantage points to look at the progress of a number of developments.

Workers are completing the second floor of Catalyst, a 22-story, 223-apartment building pictured above at 630 W Washington in the West Loop.

A dozen stories have been added to the original structure at 111 W Wacker, and one of them has glass cladding on its south face. The site is coming back to life as a 59-floor, 504-unit luxury apartment tower.

The discordant cladding of the 11-story, 99-unit apartment building at 1601 W Division in East Village appears nearly complete in this sunset shot from K2.

The site (fenced in blue) has been cleared for a 26-story, 189-unit apartment tower at 212 W Illinois in River North, but foundation work has yet to begin.

Infrastructure is still the order of the day at River Point, a 45-story, 900,000 square foot office tower at 444 W Lake in the Fulton River District. River Point, which was begun without an anchor tenant, just locked in a 20-year lease on a quarter of its space. The deal with McDermott Will & Emery marks, I believe, the first time a major law firm has rented space this far west and north.

Demolition work wrapped up more than a month ago at 1K Fulton in the West Loop, but the project is apparently awaiting permits to resume construction.

Be sure to check back frequently at YoChicago for the views you won’t find anywhere else.
