Visitors to the Loop have a new building to oooh and ahhh over — Booth Hansen‘s MoMo is only a few floors shy of its full height of 33 stories, and the glass skin is on its way up. Only six condos remain for sale at the building, located at 8 E Randolph St, and each is a southwest-facing two-bedroom unit. Prices range from the $460s to the $470s, and developer Smithfield Properties expects deliveries to begin between October and December.
I have mixed feelings about this development. As a whole I like it, but sometimes I wonder whether I really like the fact that it’s set back from State St.
While it pays homage to the Chicago Theatre, one has to imagine how dramatic the State St canyon would have looked if this particular building was totally flush with the street. Add to that the Block 37 development underway, and we’re talking looptopia to the max
I notice that they have “loft” units in the base/podium for sale; I thought that these were purchased by a dance company (or just part of the base)?
Its a nice building and its good to see that Chicago city planners are starting to work on getting more people to LIVE in the loop by building condos such as this. I have to tell you that the loop around the Sears Tower or La Salle Bank building is a scary place to be after dark. THERE IS NOBODY DOWN THERE!!! Basically the entire area turns into a ghost town, which at least for me doesn’t make me feel too safe when walking around at that time.
The city really needs to work on the situation of not being mixed up when it comes to what buildings in a certain area are being used for (i.e. all offices south of the river to Jackson, and all residential north of the river), therefore I like the idea of this building being a residential structure and where it’s placement is in regards to it’s surroundings. It will be a welcome sight to see some people actually out walking around on the sidewalks after dark with them living right there and a few stores might actually start to stay open later to cater to the increasing residents needs and wants verses how they all seem to close at about 6-9pm now.
