  • Looks like it will be blocking some of those great views after all. The SE corner looks like it will be saved, but in the end, the apartment building will have way more units with better views as the corridor is north/south.

  • Except the west facing units (though they’ll be mostly unblocked) – we are talking about SoNo, right?

    Not quite! You’re grossly misrepresenting my position.

    Here’s exactly what I said, and the context in which I said it, responding to you:

    If the second building is built as per the original site plan the blockage will be minimal and won’t affect the due east or south views at all. Only the northwest view will be impacted.

  • Followed by a correction from me (he meant northeast, not northwest), and a comment about how the building “would obscure existing east-facing units’ views to the northeast toward the lower portions of the park.”

    That same day, I found the rendering from Antunovich — which pretty clearly demonstrated that the second building wouldn’t be built along the original plan — and noted that “the eastern tower would sit at a full right angle, instead of at more of a dog-legged L, and would obscure a lot more of the western tower’s views directly east.”

  • The only plan I was ever privey to was the plan Askins is reffering to…i guess that wasnt the “original plan”…but let me ask you Joe, dont you feel a bit sorry for selling the great views over and over when you knew something was probably going to block them? You constantly talk about realitor tricks, but one of the biggest is pretending that “the parking lot there, it will never be built on” or simlar. I hear it everytime I’m in a downtown high rise.

    I don’t know who you’re talkng about, because y ou’re not describing me in any way.

    For starters, we don’t know yet how the second building will be sited. We’ve seen a rough, preliminary rendering – that’s all – and we don’t know exactly what will be affected.

    We do know that the existing building will continue to have spectacular south and southeast and southwest views from some of the units that MIGHT be affected. We also know that buyers knew in advance that there would be a second building and that it would have at least some impact on some of the views.

    I don’t feel the slightest twang over not speculating about something I don’t fully understand.

    You’re the one who’s doing the pretendig here. You’re pretending I said something I didn’t, and you’re pretending to know something you don’t about the second building’s impact.

    Wanted to jump in here. All the unit owners at SoNo West were told about the second tower and a display of it was housed in the gym at SoNo since it opened. Needless to say,the owners knew what they were buying into. While the views to the lake are fabulous and will be obstructed when the second tower is complete ( up to 22 stories) the views surrounding the entire building are also second to none. I think as the old saying goes “when buying real estate it is all about location, location, location.” The views are a bonus. And boy have we got that covered. If you haven’t seen the plans for the Halstead Triangle yet you should take a look. Our property values should remain strong for some time to come.

    Of course, we are looking forward to having that empty lot finished.

    Seeing we only have a few units left, I think we are very lucky that SoNo West weathered the storm. There are only a few units left and if someone is lucky enough they can own here for the price as renting. Not a bad place to be.
