Dancer on a bun in Glenview

A new northwest suburban gourmet hot dog joint is serving up genuine Reindeer Hot Dogs for the holiday season. The place is called fRedhots and Fries (the creative spelling is a play on the owner’s name, which is “Fred”), and it is at 1707 Chestnut Ave., Glenview (847-657-9200).

Following the lead of Hot Doug’s (the creative spelling is a play on the owner’s name, which is “Doug”), the premier gourmet hot dog stand in Chicago–possibly the world–fRedhots opened recently, and is offering up all manner of fancy encased meats. The reindeer version comes from a place called Indian Valley Meats of Alaska, and at fRedhots they serve the reindeer dog just like the fellas do in Anchorage: with grilled onions and mustard.

The damage is $8 and they are available beginning tomorrow, Dec. 8. It’s a long way to go for a hot dog, but it’s closer than Alaska. In fact, I would like to see one of those far northwestern suburbs adopt that motto: “Closer to Chicago than Alaska!” That’ll move some real estate.
