Designing your week: Chicago Antique Market and Indie Designer Fashion Market

Because it’s West Loop week here at the Yo, and because the onslaught of summer festivals is nearly upon us, we thought we’d point you toward the fourth annual Chicago Antique Market and Indie Designer Fashion Market, which kicks off this Saturday and Sunday on the 1300 block of Randolph Street (between Ogden and Ada) from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Though it’s described by various promoters as a flea market, don’t expect rickety folding tables with grimy cake pans and a few chipped ceramic cats. Here you’ll pay $8 admission ($20 if you show up at 7:30 a.m. for early outdoor shopping) to troll upscale goods from 18th century French art to vintage fashion. The snacks are gourmet and a vegetable stand has organic fare. A Junior Collectors Club aims to instill the joys of antiques shopping in your kids – pretty snazzy. Back in the day, I collected used bottle caps.

The market continues every last Saturday of the month through October. For more events, check out YoChicago’s events calendar.
