Does anyone live in the Reader's Uptown?

As a Chicago neighborhood buff — and a chronic fan of the Chicago Reader — I looked forward to sampling the first of the Reader’s neighborhood series, on Uptown.

It’s a curious effort — and hard to tell that it’s from the Reader rather than Time Out or Chicago Magazine or even Fodor’s.

No one seems to live in the Reader’s Uptown, and there are no places there for them to live, no places to shop for groceries, no schools to send kids to, no crime, no public transportation … the list goes on.

The Reader’s Uptown is a lot like Gertrude Stein’s Oakland.
