Douglas Garofalo at the Art Institute of Chicago

Nothstine Residence. Photo by Nathan KirkmanAfter spending the weekend in Hyde Park and passing by the Hyde Park Art Center, 5020 S Cornell Ave, we couldn’t resist stopping by the Art Institute of Chicago to learn more about the development’s architect, Douglas Garofalo. According to the museum, Garofalo is “one of the country’s leading voices in digital pedagogy and practice of architecture.” The exhibit, a collection of drawings, models and digital media, made for a worthwhile visit, if only to see how the Hyde Park Art Center fit into the larger framework of the architect’s work and ideas. And even those with little interest in South Side architecture will find plenty to discuss, given the broad range of Garofalo’s displayed work, including the theoretical Camouflage House. The exhibit runs through October 8.
