Downtown rental count dips as May approaches; inventory down 33% year-over-year

The number of homes listed for rent through the MLS in the 14 downtown ZIP codes grew slightly in late March, but dipped again this week as renters started locking down homes for May.

Overall inventory is down almost 32% compared to April 2010, according to our weekly tallies. Only 60608, the ZIP code covering parts of University Village, Pilsen, Bridgeport, and McKinley Park, has more homes listed today (41) than on April 9, 2010 (36); in 60607, covering parts of the West Loop and University Village, today’s count (98) is identical to last year’s.

The median list price for rentals in these 14 ZIP codes is the same as it’s been all year — $2,000 a month.
