In July, I raised the possibility that part of Park 1000, Renaissant Development‘s 40-story high-rise planned for the Loop, would be used as a hotel. Now I’m wondering if the building will be built at all.
When I last spoke with an agent at the Park 1000 sales center in July, I learned that the construction timetable had been pushed back to spring of 2009. Since then, we haven’t heard anything suggesting that plans have changed, but if I were using the surface lot at 1000 S Michigan Ave, I wouldn’t worry about finding a new place to park anytime soon.
Park 1000’s old banner, which you can see in the opening shot of our tour video from mid-March, no longer hangs on the north side of the building at 1006 S Michigan Ave. For the past week, calls to the sales center have gone unanswered and messages unreturned. Has anyone been by there recently?
A rendering of the high-rise is at right. For now, we’re stuck with what former Yo writer Joel Hoglund referred to as an “unsightly gap between the mighty teeth” of the Michigan Avenue streetwall.
