Residents at Echelon at K Station can almost pretend that Chicago isn’t experiencing its worst winter conditions in decades. Well … almost. The luxury apartment tower’s location at 353 N Desplaines St in the Fulton River District conquers the cold with a cluster of conveniences.
While some Chicagoans dig their cars out of the snow, call dibs on the spot they cleared and slowly make their way to the expressway, Echelon residents take a warm elevator to the garage and travel a few well-plowed blocks to I-90/94, hail a taxi at their front door or head for one of the shared Zipcars across the street.
Public transit is steps away from Echelon. Residents can stay warm in the building’s lobby or resident lounge until the CTA’s Bus Tracker alerts them to zip outside to catch the #56 bus to their office in the Loop, to the nearby Blue Line train to O’Hare Airport, to Metra’s Ogilvie Transportation Center for a reverse-commute to the suburbs, or to State Street shops. The #65 bus, two short blocks north of Echelon, connects to Michigan Avenue’s Magnificent Mile Mile and Streeterville offices. The #8 bus, a block west of Echelon, travels to the University of Illinois and connections to the Medical District.
Hardier residents can opt for the short walk to the Blue Line, the Pink and Green Line stop at Clinton and the Metra station.
Grocery shopping or a trip to the pharmacy is as easy as crossing the street to Jewel-Osco‘s flagship store. Across the street from Echelon you’ll also find Radio Shack, a Chase bank branch, a nail salon, a Hair Cuttery, a cleaners and a pet supply store. There’s a dog park adjacent to Echelon.
Echelon’s Facebook page and Twitter feed keep residents informed of events in the lobby that might include free breakfast and coffee, or Fooda serving dinner from local restaurants.
Residents can count on coming home from the cold to a warm smile from Ricardo, Echelon’s lead concierge. Ricardo was recently selected as the Concierge of the Year by the nationwide company that manages Echelon.
Echelon’s fitness center keeps residents in shape for the short winter walk to dozens of neighborhood restaurants, some of them just steps away from the building.
