Electric cars, convenient retail — the Loop of the future

Browsing around the city’s Department of Planning and Development Web site this week, we came across a document detailing Mayor Daley’s plans for transforming downtown Chicago into a 24-hour district. It was a little vague, but vaguely interesting.

Loop users would be encouraged to drive electric cars (what’s wrong with using the CTA?), after-school programs would be improved and retail would be beefed up in the Theater District and along Wabash Avenue. To make life easier for the growing number of Loop residents, “convenient retail” would be added on targeted streets.

We’ve heard about the city’s plans for Wabash Avenue, but does anyone know if any more of this is actually in the works?
