Elysian and Charlie Trotter part ways

Charlie Trotter and David Pisor

It’s never good news to learn that a high-rise is losing a retail tenant, especially when that tenant is Chicago’s most revered chef.

Foodies will recall that in 2006 Charlie Trotter (pictured above, at left, with Elysian CEO David Pisor) was named to head Elysian’s food and beverage operations, and the following year it was announced that Trotter would open two separate restaurants in the River North high-rise.

This morning we received this joint statement announcing an end to Trotter’s partnership with Elysian:

The Elysian Hotel and Private Residences and Chef Charlie Trotter have mutually and amicably agreed to part company, effectively dissolving their relationship immediately. Out of respect for both parties, the Elysian is not announcing a new partner at this time. The Elysian remains committed to delivering a world-class dining experience for its residents and guests when the hotel opens in late spring. Chef Trotter will continue to provide world-class dining experiences at his restaurants. Both parties wish each other continued success now and into the future.

Despite the dining news, construction is moving forward on the 62-story Elysian Hotel and Private Residences at 11 E Walton Pl. The tower was officially topped off in December, and the hotel is expected to open in late May or early June.
