Yesterday, the editor of the Chicago Architecture Blog reported that Elysian‘s big construction crane is finally coming down. “Having performed its service, the crane will be removed today (May 12, 2009), tomorrow, and Thursday,” the unnamed blogger wrote.
In fact, as recently as late January, two cranes were perched atop the 62-story high-rise, a yellow and a white one. The yellow crane was taken down a couple of months ago, and the white crane is now being dismantled. Up above, workers are still putting in windows and installing the outer coating on that big mansard roof.
According to the Web site, the Elysian Hotel will open in July.

Who needs Epcot World Showcase: France when you have the Elysian?
Those lights on the first floor, really tacky I think. Is that corner (on State) going to be part of the lobby or retail?
I think the lights work with the Parisian design of the building.
I have no idea if it will be lobby or retail, but I welcome the addition of this building to Walton — it sure beats the parking lot and 7-11 that once stood there.
