The beat goes on as I travel south down Sheridan Road, then over to Uptown‘s new development Wilson Yard on the corner of Broadway Street and Montrose Avenue. A boutique grocery store, a cafe, and popular bar The Spot are featured along our path. Watch the beginning of my first video to see rooftop gardens and a swarm of construction workers on top of Wilson Yard.

Kudos for yet another excellent Strolling Around Uptown episode ! Back in the mid 70’s, Broadway between Wilson and Montrose was the heart and backbone of Uptown with its day labor establishments of Handy Andy, Readymen, Nationwide and Manpower. They were an essential urban survival primer for many newcomers that moved into Uptown….and were I initially learned my ‘esprit de corps’ work ethic. The Baptist Uptown Church was an important neighborhood center as well, and they even had a weekly Sunday TV show highlighting community developments. The current pace of building construction activity is breathtaking, but some things never do change like: pawnshops. Can’t wait to see the next video episode.
