1575 Oak is an 8-story, 57-unit contemporary apartment building at 1575 Oak Ave in Evanston.

The building was completed in 1961 and has been recently renovated.

The apartments

1575 Oak has a mix of studio, 1- and 2-bedroom, 1-bath apartments. In mid-December 2014 rents started at $1,055 to $1,755 depending on apartment size. Floor plans are available online.


The apartments have spacious living / dining areas with hardwood floors.

Kitchens and baths have been updated. The kitchens have maple cabinets, ample cabinet and counter space, and an appliance package that includes a dishwasher, built-in microwave and electric range.


Bedrooms have hardwood floors and are typically large enough to accommodate multiple pieces of furniture. Corner units have two walls of wall-to-wall windows with terrific views of downtown Evanston.

The apartments have reasonably good closet space.

Amenities, services, policies

1575 Oak has limited common amenities – not unusual for a building its size and age.


There’s a small fitness room and a laundry room.

Outdoor, covered and garage parking spaces are available on-site.

Cats are welcome, dogs aren’t. The building has on-site maintenance staff.

Retail space at the corner along Davis includes Delbe’s Corner Café, a nail salon, a dry cleaner, a yoga studio, a boutique and a florist.

The location

1575 Oak is just south of Davis St, at the edge of downtown Evanston. The location is close to shopping, bars, restaurants, coffee shops and public transportation.

1575 Oak is just under a mile from the Northwestern University campus.

Apartments on the north side of the building look out on the limestone bas relief sculptures adorning the Evanston Post Office, just west of 1575 Oak.

The McGaw YMCA, which has extensive swimming, fitness and other facilities, and reasonable membership rates, is a block south of the building.

Shopping. 1575 Oak has good proximity to retail shops in downtown Evanston.


Whole Foods, the nearest full-service grocery, is just over half a mile east on Chicago Ave. The nearest Jewel-Osco is a mile away on Chicago Ave. Davis Pantry, a convenience store, is a block west of 1575 Oak.

Evanston’s downtown farmers market, the best on Chicago’s North Shore, draws more than 50 vendors to a location several blocks north of the building.


Downtown Evanston offers an eclectic mix of locally-owned boutiques and name-brand retailers.

Residents of 1575 Oak who are setting up their first apartment will find much of what they need just east of the building at Lemoi Ace Hardware and Affordable Portables.

The upscale Westfield Old Orchard shopping center, anchored by Macy’s, Bloomingdales and Nordstrom, is 3 ½ miles west of 1575 Oak.

Dining, nightlife, entertainment. There are dozens of restaurants and bars within walking distance of 1575 Oak.


Walk east on Davis St and you’ll feel a great neighborhood vibe, passing a variety of locally-owned restaurants and shops. Cozy Noodles, Dream about Tea and Gigio’s Pizzeria are within a block of 1575 Oak.

Bennison’s Bakery, a block east of the building, traces its history to 1938. Third-generation family members serve up savories that draw rave reviews.

You’ll almost always have a weekend wait for breakfast at Le Peep or its next-door neighbor Dixie Kitchen, a few blocks north of 1575 Oak on Church St.


Downtown Evanston is a pedestrian-friendly environment and a number of restaurants have outdoor seating areas.


As you’d expect in a college town, national brands have a strong presence, but there are enough one-of-a-kind restaurants near 1575 Oak to satisfy almost every palate. And there are scores more a bit further afield in Evanston’s quirky neighborhoods.


You won’t find much of a club scene in Evanston, but you will find drinking establishments ranging from Bar Louie to Tommy Nevin’s within a few blocks of 1575 Oak.

The Century 12 Cinemark movie theater is two blocks from 1575 Oak. Evanston has a respectable live theatre scene.

A number of Evanston’s street festivals and outdoor concerts take place near 1575 Oak

Parks, recreation. The location is not convenient to public parks and outdoor recreational areas. Alexander Park, a small park with a playground and chess tables, is a block south and west of 1575 Oak.

Evanston’s public beaches are less than a mile from the building.

Transportation. Residents of 1575 Oak have good access to public transportation.

Metra’s North Line stop at Davis St is two blocks east of the building.

The CTA Purple Line stop at Davis St is just beyond the Metra stop.

Northwestern’s Evanston loop shuttle stops at the corner steps from 1575 Oak. Four bus routes, #205, #208, #213 and #250, are steps from the building on Davis.

All of Evanston has relatively inconvenient access to Chicago’s airports and to I-90/94 and the expressway grid.

Both Enterprise and Zipcar have a car sharing location several blocks from the building. Taxi service can be readily summoned to the building
