The Reserve is a 4-story, 193-unit apartment complex built in 2003 at 1930 Ridge Ave in Evanston.
The developer was a joint venture of Fifield Companies and Invesco Real Estate.
The apartments
The Reserve has a mix of studio, 1-, 2- and 3-bedroom apartments. Two-bedrooms have either 1 or 2 baths; 3-bedrooms have 2 baths.

The apartments have 9-foot ceilings. Apartments are carpeted and have in-unit washer / dryers and good closet space.
Open-plan kitchens have gas ranges, dishwashers, microwaves, disposals and a variety of finishes.
The floor plans are efficient, with little space lost to halls or travel corridors. Most two-bedrooms have the split-bedroom plan preferred by roommates and people who work from home.
Select units have balconies or patios. Heat and air-conditioning are individually controlled.
Amenities, services, policies
The Reserve has an outdoor pool and sundeck with gas grills, a fitness room with cardio and strength-training equipment, and a “cyber café” with Wi-Fi.
Heated garage parking is available with assigned spaces. Free guest parking is available. There’s a bicycle storage area and resident storage.
The Reserve accepts cats and small dogs. The building has on-site leasing, management and maintenance staff.
The location
The Reserve is at the edge of downtown Evanston, close to shopping, bars, restaurants, coffee shops and public transportation.
The Reserve is four blocks from the start of the Northwestern University campus and within a 10-minute walk of many campus locations. The Reserve is three-quarters of a mile from Evanston Hospital.
Shopping. The Reserve has good proximity to retail shops in downtown Evanston.
There’s a small strip center across the street at Emerson with Wings over Evanston, Subway, Siam Splendour, Spotless Dog Wash and an Edward Jones office.
The nearest full-service grocery, Whole Foods, is about three-quarters of a mile southeast on Chicago Ave. The nearest Jewel-Osco is over a mile away on Chicago Ave.
Evanston’s downtown farmers market, the best on Chicago’s North Shore, draws more than 50 vendors to a location a few blocks from The Reserve.
Downtown Evanston, a few short blocks south of The Reserve, offers an eclectic mix of locally-owned boutiques and name-brand retailers..
The upscale Westfield Old Orchard shopping center, anchored by Macy’s, Bloomingdales and Nordstrom, is just under four miles west of The Reserve.
Dining, nightlife, entertainment. There are dozens of restaurants and bars within walking distance of The Reserve.
Some of the locals contend that Buffalo Joe’s, a half-dozen blocks from The Reserve, has the best wings in America.
You’ll almost always have a weekend wait for breakfast at Le Peep or its next-door neighbor Dixie Kitchen, a few blocks south of The Reserve on Church St.
Downtown Evanston is a pedestrian-friendly environment, and a number of restaurants have outdoor seating areas.
As you’d expect in a college town, national brands have a strong presence, but there are enough one-of-a-kind restaurants near The Reserve to satisfy almost every palate. And there are scores more a bit further afield in Evanston’s quirky neighborhoods.
You won’t find much of a club scene in Evanston, but you will find drinking establishments ranging from Bar Louie to Tommy Nevin’s.
The Century 12 Cinemark movie theater is about a five-minute walk from The Reserve. Evanston has a respectable live theatre scene.
A number of Evanston’s street festivals and outdoor concerts take place near The Reserve.
Parks, recreation. The location is not convenient to public parks and outdoor recreation areas.
Evanston’s public beaches are nearly a mile east of The Reserve.
Transportation. The Reserve has good access to public transportation.
Metra’s North Line stop at Davis St is about a 10-minute walk from The Reserve.
The CTA Purple Line stop at Davis St is just beyond the Metra stop. The Purple Line stop at Foster is less than a 5-minute walk from The Reserve.
Several Northwestern shuttles stop at and near The Reserve.
All of Evanston has relatively inconvenient access to Chicago’s airports and to I-90/94 and the expressway grid.
Enterprise has a car rental location two blocks from The Reserve. Taxi service can be readily summoned to the building
The competition
Rentals are typically available in a number of nearby condo buildings, sometimes at lower rents than in the managed apartment buildings.
