First look at a New City 2-bedroom model

The sprawling New City development was alive with activity when I visited yesterday.

The enormous new parking lot was open, the courtyard fountain was bubbling, Dick’s Sporting Goods and It’Sugar had just opened, Z Gallerie was being fitted out and work was likely underway inside Mariano’s, ArcLight Cinemas, Kings Bowl America, Yard House, Adobe Gila’s,Earl’s Kitchen, Good Stuff Eatery and other venues slated to open this fall.

I headed for the New City apartment tower to tour three furnished models: a 2-bedroom, 2-bath, a 1-bedroom and a 1-bedroom plus den.

The apartments have a lot of character, with high ceilings, floor-to-ceiling windows, interesting open layouts, wood-look floors throughout, private balconies and a variety of built-ins and upgrades over what you’ll typically find in new construction.

The northeast corner 2-bedroom has a curving window wall that looks out onto a sweeping view of the skyline – on days when the weather is better than it was yesterday.

The kitchen has an island with a built-in wine rack. There are quartz counter tops, more than ample cabinet and counter space, and a stainless steel appliance package that includes a gas range, dishwasher, built-in microwave and refrigerator with an ice-maker.

The dining area is large enough to accommodate a table that seats six or eight.

The master bedroom had space for a seating area. The master bath has a quartz-topped vanity with two under-mount sinks, a walk-in shower and a wall-mounted make-up mirror. All of the fixtures were stylish and superior in quality to most newer apartments.

The master has a large walk-in closet. The in-unit washer / dryer just down the entry hall from the master suite.

The apartment had a split-bedroom layout, with the second bedroom furnished as an office that can double as a guest room. The second bath also has a walk-in shower.

The apartment has a view over a patio lounge that has a grilling area. The patio overlooks the New City courtyard, which should be a vibrant scene when the retail, restaurant and entertainment venues open.

The apartment also looks out over the Apple store, which is adjacent to the CTA Red Line stop at North Ave.

New City is a full-amenity, full-service, pet-friendly community with 199 studio, convertible, 1- and 2-bedroom, 2-bath apartments. Floor plans are available online. The leasing office is open on-site.
