Forged documents, a suspicious fire, a $2m skip-out

Remember when high-rolling bandit builders stalked the cornfields of Chicagoland — the good old days before they all went bland and law-abiding? Well, those days may not be completely gone.

According to a Chicago Tribune article picked up by Builder Online, two southwest suburban towns (Lemont and Homer Glen) have filed a lawsuit alleging that Montalbano Builders “tried to skip out” on a $2 million obligation and forged documents in connection with a development that was the site of an allegedly suspicious fire which consumed a pre-Civil War home.
