Foundation work underway on new South Loop apartments

Site clearance had just begun at the time of our last visit to 1001 S State in the South Loop.

There were three drilling rigs on site yesterday, along with lots of steel tubing and rebar, and lots of activity despite the holiday.

A joint venture of Golub & Co and CIM Group is the developer. Solomon Cordwell Buenz is the architecture firm for the project and Walsh Construction is the general contractor.

The 41-story tower will have 397 apartments, a 248-car garage and ground-level retail space. The studio to 3-bedroom apartments are slated to be ready for occupancy next year.

We’re currently estimating that nearly 6,000 new apartments will open in downtown Chicago in 2016. You can see all of the new downtown Chicago apartment projects on our at-a-glance list.
