From the $230s to $4 million on one of Chicago’s best blocks

At 2:00 in the video I pause in front of 2333 N Cleveland and reminisce about its asking price in 1978 – $235,000, as I recall. The home is today’s Wall Street Journal House of the Day, with an asking price of $4 million.

The 8,600 square foot home on a 40 x 175 x 195 lot had been converted into a 3-flat. It had very elaborate woodwork and flooring, marble fireplaces, inlaid pocket doors and other details still intact from its glory days. I wanted to buy the property very badly, but my ex-wife didn’t, and you know how that story ended.

The property has been converted back into a single-family home with 6 bedrooms, 5 full and 2 half baths, and a partially-finished basement. It’s on the market for the first time in 25 years.

Watch the video for a walk along one of the city’s most attractive blocks.
