Griffin’s Emery House in Elmhurst, still for sale

It was late January when I toured The Emery House in Elmhurst with Tom Makinney of Coldwell Banker’s Gracik Makinney Group, one of our sponsors. The home was listed for sale in early February, and is still available for purchase at a list price of $1,750,000.

The home, at 281 S Arlington, was designed by Walter Burley Griffin for his friend and high school classmate, William H. Emery Jr. Griffin went on to achieve international fame for his role in designing Canberra, the capital of Australia.

The Emery House is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The complete restoration of the home by its current owners won a Richard H. Driehaus Foundation Preservation Award.
