Groundbreaking tomorrow for 216 apartments at Madison and Racine

Construction is underway on 216 new apartments on the northwest corner of Madison and Racine in the West Loop. The official groundbreaking ceremony will take place tomorrow at 11 a.m.

The Madison on Racine will be a 9-story luxury midrise with a mix of convertible, one- and two-bedroom apartments and 227 parking spaces. On-site amenities will include a pool and sundeck, a landscaped courtyard, a workout facility and pet recreation area, and 10,000 square feet of ground-floor retail space fronting Madison Street. Occupancy is slated for the fall of 2014.

FitzGerald Associates is the architect for the project, which is being built by a joint venture that includes Chicago-based Ascend Real Estate Group.

Developer Steven Fifield was recently reported to be acquiring Mod, a 58-unit condo at 1222 W Madison that had been converted to rentals. Fifield planned to build 44 new units on the site, pictured above, immediately west of Mod, with occupancy slated for summer of next year.
