The Market Place Foodstore on Diversey is the grocery that Yelpers love to hate, in part because it’s so convenient for nearby residents. If the more than 100 rants at Yelp are any indication, Lake View residents would welcome any alternative. Except, perhaps, Wal-Mart.
According to a Chicago Real Estate Daily article, Wal-Mart will present its plans for a store at 2840 N Broadway at a meeting of the South East Lake View Neighbors (SELVN) at 7 p.m. on Monday.
SELVN meetings are held at Wellington Avenue Church, 615 W Wellington Ave.

Yes, The City Market is a terrible, price gouging place – and I might support a Grocery Store at the Broadway and Surf location – EXCEPT – I don’t think that’s the real deal that Walmart has planned for this site.
If you want to be part of this discussion to hold Walmart accountable – please come to the SELVEN meeting prepared to speak out to challenge Walmart – regardless of your view on The City Market.
We really should not only have these two crappy choice, given to large number of us who need access to afffordable groceries.
