Homeowners lose land to developers

By now, anyone who watches the news has heard of the defiant couple in China whose two-story brick home became a fortress after nearly 300 homes surrounding it had been razed to make way for a new development project. The Associated Press today reports that the couple’s home has finally been demolished after their three-year standoff with the developers. Described as heroic by many of the Chinese and as stubborness by the AP, the whole debacle is definitely worth a debate. We at YoChicago are always interested in the encroachment of the new onto the old, but we want to hear your take on it. Progress for the greater good or regression of the rights of individual landowners?
