Homer’s Ice Cream, a Wilmette tradition

When my kids were small, 20 years ago, we were frequent visitors to Homer’s. The kids, it seemed, never tired of the hamburgers and hot dogs. I did, and so we visited less often, even though the ice cream was the best Wilmette had to offer.

I revisited Homer’s today after receiving YouTube mail from a woman who remembered its red-and-white motif as an 8-year old, and remembered it as a hamburger joint.

At first I couldn’t discern any changes in Homer’s since my first visit there in 1988. I asked one of the ice cream servers, a 21-year young lady who grew up in Wilmette whether she saw any changes. She jogged my memory into recalling that the ceilings were once red and white and no longer are.
