Housing starts fall in April

U.S. housing starts fell in April but construction permits were up in a sign that new home sales were likely to remain strong.

The U.S. Commerce Department recorded housing starts at a seasonally-adjusted annual rate of 1.969 million units last month, down 2.1 percent from March. Permits, meanwhile, climbed to 1.999 million units in April, a 1.2 percent increase from March.
