Huron, we hardly knew ye

The Huron, 8 E Huron St, ChicagoFans of the brownstones at Huron and State can breathe easier now. We’re hearing that State & Huron LLC, which had hoped to build the 28-story Huron (or Huron Club, if you really want to kick it old-school) at 8 E Huron St in River North, finally gave up the ghost. Sure enough, The Huron’s sales center was closed this afternoon, and one of the brownstones’ other tenants confirmed that the tower’s sales staff moved out last month.

Who will mourn The Huron’s passing? It never seemed to be a popular project among the Yo audience, but it certainly made for some lively discussion. The 47 condominiums were to range from a 1,640 square-foot three-bedrooms priced just under $1 million to 5,600 square-foot four-bedroom penthouses priced at almost $5 million (or roughly $600 to $835 a square foot). Tricia Fox‘s sales team kicked off sales at The Huron in November 2007, and although 19 “pre-reservations” from that month had developer Paul Stanley shooting for a spring ’08 groundbreaking, a price sheet I snagged in early summer listed only nine condos under contract. (Fox, incidentally, had enough time to leave and return to Keller Williams between the beginning and end of The Huron’s marketing efforts. What a year!)
