Hurry, tell the brokers – it’s nationwide open house weekend

The National Association of Realtors is promoting Nationwide Open House Weekend this Saturday and Sunday, June 4 and 5.

I don’t have hard data to back up my impression, but it seems to me that Chicago real estate agents aren’t running an unusual number of open houses this weekend.

Many agents dislike open houses and refuse to participate in them. In many suburbs throughout Chicago, and in parts of the city, there are few to zero open houses throughout the year.

In other parts of Chicago – the North Shore in particular – open houses are favored by agents and their sellers. I did a quick scan of new North Shore listings that are hosting open houses this weekend and came up with very few results.

Did the Realtor organization’s event create heightened public interest in open houses for this weekend? Apparently it didn’t have much impact on local Realtors.
