Hyde Park and Chicago politics

Living next door to the president’s Chicago home can be like living in a “circus,” according to neighbor Bill Grimshaw, who is selling his Hyde Park home after 36 six years of residence. Now that Obama’s living with his family in the nation’s capital, the street returns to a typical Hyde Park scene: cats and dogs playing on the quiet street, a friendly wave from the Secret Service guy next door, bearded men talking to themselves on their way to the tavern to discuss philosophy.

Bill also shares his local political experience of going toe-to-toe with a “ward boss” when he worked as part of a “crack-pot do-gooder group.” As Joe points out, it leads to a “Chicago-style political movement.”
