You’ve been asking when our forums will be available.
We have an answer – next Tuesday, August 15th.
We’ll start with individual forums for each of Chicago’s hundreds of neighborhoods and over 300 suburbs.
We understand that there are conversations you’ll want to have about topics and issues beyond neighborhoods and suburbs, but we don’t have a solid notion of what those topics are.
So, please chime in with some suggestions for us on what additional forums you’d like to see, and how we might organize them.
I’d like to see a forum on strip malls, those crappy little retail developments with a dozen parking spots in front of them. Every time I see one in Chicago I feel like I am in Arlington Heights. And every time I see one in a suburb I remind myself that I live in the city and I don’t have to look at these depressing lumps. Then I get back to the city and there they are.
When did building out to the sidewalk become undesirable in one of the world’s largest cities?
I would absolutely LOVE to see a forum where we can discuss the daily annoyances of having to do business within the walls of City Hall.
Better yet, maybe even an NBC5 Investigates Report…
If you’ve ever tried to obtain a building permit for new construction or even just a rehab/alteration, you’ll know what I’m talking about.
Some City employees (paid with our tax dollars) working at the Dept. of Construction and Permits are among the most unprofessional people in the City.
Simple things like picking up your phone call, returning a phone call, receiving and answering an email inquiry, scheduling an appointment or review, and even just leaving them a voicemail are oftentimes so impossible that it’s a wonder this is a ‘City that Works’ because certainly there are those down there that do no work.
