In-Spired: Is glass-enclosed bedroom groovy or impractical?

Was it timed to coincide with the latest remake of “Invasion of the Body Snatchers?” Probably not, but the pod-like bedroom in one model unit for The Chicago Spire made us think of the film classic.

Architect Santiago Calatrava points out that this cylindrical glass enclosure with sliding glass doors is just one possible configuration for the room-within-a-room bedroom in The Chicago Spire’s “gallery unit,” and it is pretty cool looking – when you’re touring a decked-out model. Is it practical? One observer remarked that the layout had a slight “Austin Powers feel,” so maybe this will be the design of choice for footloose bachelor buyers (of the wealthy variety) at the project, planned to be the tallest residential building in the world.
