In this installment of Infill, architecture critic Phil Berger says it’s a shame more developers didn’t take the approach evident at 1000 W Washington Blvd, a building that encompasses nearly an entire West Loop block. He praises the maintenance of the historic facade and the lack of tacked-on balconies.

I would reserve the term ‘infill projects’ as filling in between other buildings, not covering an entire block for many many decades.
Also, recessed balconies make for darker living rooms. See No. Ten Lofts for protruding balconies that residents enjoy that don’t sacrifice light.
I’ve also heard of high special assessments on 1000 W. Washington so how much of a ‘thumbs up’ does this deserve?
