Is Northbrook the heart of the North Shore?

Yesterday’s email served up another droplet in the endless stream of news releases touting a new development’s location as being “in the heart of the North Shore.”

The development in question is in Northbrook, which is a North Shore community in the same sense that Oak Park is a Chicago neighborhood.

The Village of Northbrook is an attractive northern suburb that can boast excellent schools, good shopping, a strong employment base, extensive parks and recreational opportunities, a varied housing stock, close proximity to expressway and train transportation, and a great deal more.

In my view, Northbrook real estate agents and developers who chase after the superior cachet of the North Shore do Northbrook a disservice, and demean it. They should just stop with the North Shore shtick.
