Construction at the 34-story K2 at K Station high-rise is ahead of schedule after a mild winter.

On Friday, June 15, the tower crane “jumped” 100 feet in height, enabling it to haul materials up to the 26th floor. The crane was tied in at the 17th floor, which is complete.

McHugh Construction’s Owen Smith showed me around the 3rd level deck, which will begin being tied into Halsted Street in about a week. We also took a brief look at a mockup unit that’s being built at the owner’s request for quality assurance purposes. Part of the unit is masked off pending pressure testing of the window systems.
