Alan Schachtman is a principal in the Fifield-Wood joint venture that’s developing K2 at K Station, a 34-story, 496-unit high-rise apartment building under construction in Chicago’s Fulton River District.
I stopped by K2 this morning as the weekly construction meeting was wrapping up, and stepped outside with Alan for a progress report. Workers were pouring concrete on the 6th floor, and preparing the 7th. Once the 9th floor is complete the building will rise on a 3-day per floor schedule, targeting move-ins in April of 2013.
We chatted a bit about the different kinds of climbing forms used in the construction, and zoomed in on a unit that will have a large outdoor terrace. A new website for K2 is currently live and enabling registration for renters who want to keep abreast of the development’s progress.
Alan began his nearly 30-year career as an architect with SOM and Murphy/Jahn, and has since overseen the development of major office and residential projects throughout the world.
