Kendall whups Cook: population spikes in 'burbs, shrinks in city

Suburban Kendall County was the second-fastest growing county in the nation between 2000 and 2006, according to a Crain’s story. Census data shows its population has rocketed to 88,158 from 54,520 during that period. Affordable housing near business hubs in the city and suburbs account for the growth, Kendall County officials told Crain’s.

Cook County, by contrast, lost 2 percent of its residents since 2000 (although it’s also the second most populous county in the nation, after Los Angeles County).
