Buying a home involves round after round of trade-offs. I’ve always thought it made the most sense to prioritize the community and environment and place a secondary value on the home itself.
Not everyone approaches home buying that way, which may account in part for the fact that a 3-bedroom (with a 4th on the lower level), 3 ½ bath home at 625 Ivy Ct, a few steps from Sears School in Kenilworth, has lingered on the market for over 18 months. The home was initially priced at $679,000, and is currently offered at $575,000.
The location is also a short walk from New Trier High School’s Winnetka campus and almost equidistant from the Indian Hill Metra and Kenilworth Metra stations. You can see the location in a video I shot a few months ago of six homes under $600K in Kenilworth.
The home is open Sunday from 2:30 to 4:30.
If $575K is out of your price range and you’d assumed everything in Kenilworth is, you might want to take another look. Four bedroom, 2-bath homes at 623 Melrose and 533 Exmoor (a short sale) are in contingent status after having been listed at $324,000 and $399,900, respectively.
