Although “a city within a city” is a common description of Marina City, you could say the same about Magellan Development‘s Lakeshore East complex on the New East Side. As this video opens, you hear a Chicago Architecture Foundation tour guide suggest that Lakeshore East, with its park, retail spaces, and plans for a new school and grocery store, are right in line with the philosophy of Marina City architect Bertrand Goldberg, who believed in the importance of amenity-rich, mixed-use urban communities at a time when homebuyers were flocking to the suburbs.
