"Legacy" condos in Loop will offer access to prestigious University Club

The Legacy The awning of the University Club

Whoever named The Legacy and The Heritage, twin condo towers overlooking Millennium Park, implied a connection to Chicago’s established class. The Legacy, currently under construction at the corner of Michigan Avenue and Monroe Street, is making that connection literal. A skybridge will link its 355 homes with the nearby University Club at 76 E Monroe St, one of Chicago’s oldest and toniest. But membership for Legacy residents is not automatic, although they’ll be able to waive the initiation fee and get help with the three nominations required to apply, says Kalina Pon, who is selling condos in the building. Then (hopefully) comes access to the club’s restaurants, private dining rooms, art gallery, library and what the club’s literature describes as its “continuum of outstanding cultural activities.” Pon says Legacy members get an added perk: room service from the U Club at their condos. But should new residents of the Legacy not have a degree from a four-year college, the club’s main requirement for joining, they’ll be ordering kung pao like the rest of us.
