Let's declare today "Chicago Real Estate Agents' Day" and give them all parking spaces

Parking spaces are precious in this bustling city of ours, so it seems only fitting that priority should be given to people who fill crucial roles in our society. You know, people like social workers, home healthcare workers, real estate agents.

Yep, you read it correctly: real estate agents. The city is considering a measure that would permit real estate agents to pay $300 for a permit that would give them the right to park in neighborhoods with residents-only parking, according to a Trib story. Cos, you know, they’re only working for the public good, after all. But why stop there? This from Ald. Walter Burnett: “The next thing you know, developers are going to want free parking.”

Heck, and why not? And while we’re at it, let’s give them subsidized childcare and perhaps even a stipend for housing the middle and upper classes in times of need – you know, a sort of Section 8 penthouse in some depressed neighborhood like Millennium Park? How about making their commissions tax free, just to help ’em out a little more? What about a wardrobe allowance? Maybe Daley should give them a key to the city and be done with it. This from Yo’s Hayley: “How about free manis and pedis every Thursday?”
