Livin' large on East Lake Shore Drive

Lake Shore Drive only runs north-south, you say? You could be forgiven for missing E Lake Shore (it’s only about two blocks, or eight buildings wide), but you won’t be. Certainly not by the people who pride themselves on having one of the city’s most exclusive addresses. This week we’ll look at luxury properties in the exclusive East Lake Shore Drive District, which the City designated a Chicago Landmark in 1985. The firms of Marshall & Fox and Fugard & Knapp designed these buildings between 1912 and 1929, and the grand apartment towers later converted from rentals to for-sale housing. Residents of some of the best units have been there for decades, so resales are closely watched.
