Logan Square’s Hairpin Lofts receives preservation award

The landmark Morris Sachs building at 2800 N Milwaukee Ave in Logan Square, which had sat vacant for nearly 20 years, has been transformed into Hairpin Lofts, a community resource where Logan Square artists can gather, perform, display their creations, work – and live affordably.

The first floor is retail space. The entire second floor hosts a meeting, display and performance space overseen by the Logan Square Chamber of Arts. The upper floors are mixed-income lofts, with rents ranging from $300 to $1,200 a month. The $300 a month units are reserved for the physically disabled, and they are fully rented.

The project was one of nine recently honored with preservation awards by Landmarks Illinois and the Richard H. Driehaus Foundation.

Rich Sciortino of Brinshore Development takes us on a guided tour of the project in the video. Hartshorne Plunkard Architecture was the renovation architect.
