Looking back on Bridgeport’s Lowe Street Homes

Ten years ago the median price of a Bridgeport home was $155,000, the highest-priced sale in the area the previous year was $419,000, and Mayor Daley’s widow was still living in the family bungalow in the 3500 block of Lowe.

Fast forward five years and a developer was offering six single-families further south on Lowe, on a much less attractive block, at prices that ranged upwards from $749,000. The development was called the Lowe Street Homes.

Jump forward to the present day and the median list price in Bridgeport has nearly doubled, to $294,000, according to Redfin. The median sold price in May, however, as $135K – well below the median from 10 years ago.

Three of the Lowe Street Homes were never built, and two lingered on the market before selling well below the anticipated price. 3851 S Lowe sold for $600K in February of 2010 and 3853 S Lowe sold in January of 2010 for $615K. A bit further north on the same block a home billed as offering “nothing but the finest” is listed for sale at $575K at 3808 S Lowe.
