Luxury home site on Orchard still hosts four townhomes

The 1800 and 1900 blocks of Orchard, Burling and Howe in Lincoln Park have been the venue for some of Chicago’s largest new homes in recent years. The area has been called a land of “dueling mansions,” “Gazillionaires’ Row” and “a ghetto of the richest people in town.”

The 44-foot wide lot at 1857 – 59 N Orchard is currently occupied by four condominium townhomes built in the early 80s. All four units were sold to a developer late last year for an aggregate price of $2,550,000, resulting in a profit for three of the four sellers.

LG Construction & Development is currently offering a 9,000 square foot new home, designed by Morgante-Wilson Architects, on the site for $6,950,000. If that’s insufficient space, the listing notes that “up to 12,000 square feet” is possible on the site.
