Holabird & Root, one of Chicago’s storied architectural firms, began in the 1880s and during most of its history a Holabird was an active principal at the firm.
John A Holabird Jr may have been the least-accomplished architect of the grandfather – father – son lineage, but he led perhaps the most serendipitous life of the trio. He’s also the only Chicago architect ever portrayed by Robert Redford in a major motion picture.
You’ll meet John A Holabird Jr and learn a bit about the firm’s work in the video, which includes some fun film clips from his childhood. A fun tidbit: the tag line suggested for the firm by his father was “good buildings cheap.”
