Meeting tonight on Gold Coast Jewel apartment tower

A community meeting on the proposed new apartment tower on the Jewel site at Clark and Division is scheduled for 7 to 9 pm this evening, Monday February 24. The meeting will be held at the Thompson Hotel, 21 E Bellevue Pl.

Fifield Companies will outline a proposal that reduces the height of the apartment tower from 42 to 37 stories and incorporates an existing office building at 1201 N Clark St into the development. Five stories would be added to the office building, which would be converted to residential with retail at ground level.

The development includes a flagship Jewel store that would be nearly twice the size of the existing one.

More details are available at the Gold Coast Jewel website.

It’s been nearly two years since the announcement that Fifield was selected as the developer for the project, and coming up on three years since competition for the site began. Ald. Brendan Reilly voiced objection to a large high-rise on the site, which is now in Ald. Robert Fioretti’s ward following redistricting.
