Nicole, a project coordinator and mosaic designer at Ahalya Stone at Merchandise Mart, tells me that after a slow summer, residential business is up picking up again. Business with corporate clients has also been getting stronger as projects put into play years ago are being installed now.
There is a new trend in stone, Nicole says. The glossy granite countertops prominently featured in so many homes in recent years are starting to take a back seat to “honed” stone. Honed stone’s smooth finish with little or no gloss, Nicole tells me, gives an industrial feel to its setting.
