Mexican cooking class in hot Streeterville

Streeterville has had one of the hottest markets for new homes in the city lately, with a spate of high-profile high-rises, but upscale grocery and prepared foods market Fox & Obel, 401 E Illinois St (312-410-7301) just made it hotter. The market continues its cooking lessons series on Tuesday April 25 by teaching wannabe Latin chefs how to prepare an authentic Mexican feast. Menu items include Guacamole with Chips & Salsa, Posole Soup, Chiles Rellenos with Charred Tomato Salsa, Huachaningo Veracruzana (Red Snapper) and Cajeta Flan. And you’ll pair wines with the dishes. Not that a nice crisp beer doesn’t go perfectly with Mexican food. So don’t think of this is a Cinco de Mayo primer, even though that holiday is right around the corner (and does anyone actually celebrate it outside of Mexico?) Think of it instead as a way to prepare a killer Mexican feast on any day of the summer.

The 90-minute class starts at 6 p.m., and costs $45.
