It was a tough call, choosing a winner of our contest to rename The Chicago Spire, partly because everyone went for the obvious. That Tootsie Roll kid from the old commercials ain’t got nothin on Santiago Calatrava.
We left aside some of the cruder phallic references and went with Misanthrope’s much classier suggestion, “The Chicago Shaft.” We’re pretty sure it’s an Isaac Hayes reference – Calatrava’s apparently a huge fan.
